Book feature…

Posted by Industry on December 13, 2006

Career FAQAbout 10 months ago as I was sitting at my desk in Sydney working at Globus & Cosmos (tour operator), I was approched for an interviewed for a new book that was coming out about Careers in the Travel & Tourism Industry of Australia.  Now I answered the questions and didn’t really think anything of it, until recently when I received a copy of the book and my interview was in there!

The book is called “Career FAQs - Travel & Tourism” and it is written by Sarah James. If you are interested in reading more about the book you can check it out here

An Aussie tourism icon has died doing what he loved.

Posted by Industry on September 4, 2006

As someone that grew up in Sydney, Australia, I feel that it is only fitting that I dedicate this entry to Steve ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin who died suddenly while diving in Queensland.

Famous for his larikin ways and his statement ‘Crickey’, he was also the creator of Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Australia - a huge tourist attraction. I have been there and it was one of the best zoos that I have ever been to.

He has been hailed as the man who promoted Australia to the world and received recognition from the Australian tourism community when he was awarded with a one-off “Services to Inbound Tourism” award for promoting tourism to the international market.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

p.s I took this photo in Utrecht, The Netherlands…it just goes to show how popular he was.

And now I’m in Vancouver, BC Canada & I love it!

Posted by Industry on April 25, 2006

So after a short flight from San Francisco (1hr, 40 mins), we landed in Vancouver last night & I was so happy…I love Vancouver. It is quite easily one of the best cities that I have been to in my entire life and I have been to quite a few now.

The weather is beautiful and I can't wait to go for a walk along the seawall from Yaletown to English Bay and stop at Vera's Burger (the best burgers) then walk up Robson St (shopping area) and then just generally chill out.

Anyway, gotta get out in the sunshine and enjoy the city…we are hear for a few days & then we are off to Victoria, on Vancouver Island.

Why do people travel?

Posted by Industry on March 15, 2006

With the travel industy being a US$600 billion industry, it makes you wonder why people travel…is it to get away from the every day routine that runs their life, is it for business travel or is it for volunteer work?

Personally I travel because I love experiencing a new destination and the thrill of figuring out the small things like how to catch public transport and getting to know the area around you.

But there are other reasons. Baby boomers are travelling because they have the time and the income but they also like to explore the world and experience things they never thought they could like safaris, soft-adventure travel and independent travel.

Or what about women travellers, they are wanting more out of their vacations so they attend culinary holidays, spa getaways and health retreats.

With so many different trips, destinations and holidays available for people from all walks of life, I doubt anyone will ever know all of the reasons why people travel.
