Travel Tip #14 - How to avoid jet lag and be comfortable!

Posted by Industry on August 28, 2006

I know that whenever I fly on a long flight, I have no problems sleeping on the plane. Actually I can fall asleep standing up if needed, but I do have a problem with jet lag when I get to my destination. Here are some tips to try & avoid jet lag…

  • Just after take-off change the time on your watch to the time of your destination. (If in doubt, ask your flight attendant)
  • If you are due to arrive in the morning, try & have a sleep before the plane lands. This way you should have some energy, even if it is just enough to get you to your accommodation.

Also, I hate being uncomfortable on flights, so here are some hints for staying nice & comfy…

  • Rub moisturiser on your face, it will stop it from drying out (works well for girls & guys)
  • Wear loose fitting clothes…if you have to wear business clothes because you have a meeting when you arrive, take a pair of tracksuit pants to change into.
  • Try not to take your shoes off - the reason? Sometimes your feet will swell & not fit back into your shoes at the end of the flight. Believe me…it happens!

Anyway, I hope these help :)

Would you buy your next holiday from Ebay?

Posted by Industry on August 27, 2006

Think about it…you buy presents, books and a tonne of other items from Ebay, so would you buy a vacation?

There are airfares, vacation packages, hotel accommodation, self catering houses and a lot more all up for auction, but would you trust buying your next holiday from the auction site?

There are some good deals to be had and people are bidding, but would you?

Is it time for the bubble to burst?

Posted by Industry on August 23, 2006

I came across an interesting article about the amount of start-up travel related websites and the article is asking - Are there too many online travel start-ups? Personally I think the answer is yes…It seems like everyday I am getting emails from new companies.

Anyway, the article is an interesting one - so check it out.

For the love of museums…

Posted by Industry on August 14, 2006

The Egyptian Cultural Ministry is planning on building a museum in every city in Egypt to preserve its heritage and raise cultural awareness. This is a great move for tourism and museum lovers!

Maybe more cities should be thinking along these lines?

Fancy looking at artwork before you sleep?

Posted by Industry on August 12, 2006

There is a newish trend in the hotel industry that is being called ‘Art Hotels’.These Art Hotels have each room decorated differently with art, whether it is art deco, renaissance or another type of art, each is a masterpiece.

An example of an art hotel is the ‘Reflections Hotel‘ in Bangkok, Thailand. The photos below are from the hotel…

In the Navy…

Posted by Industry on August 11, 2006

Victoria, BC Canada has been getting a little bit of attention for the last 3 days as there was a US Navy ship visiting and there was an influx of 3,200 people.

What a great time for them to be visiting, beautiful summer weather and they were here from Monday-Wednesday, which meant a big boom for downtown restaurants, hotels, bars and shops as the navy guys & girls spent their money!

I had never really thought about this side of tourism, but it does happen. I remember living in Sydney when Navy ships pulled into the harbour and you really noticed the increase of people in downtown.

Anyway, I think it is a great thing for tourism in any city that are dedicated stopovers for Navy ships!

Am I forgetting something?

Posted by Industry on August 8, 2006

A friend of mine recently arrived from a short flight & proceeded to get home. It wasn’t until my friend was home (45 min. drive), that he went to get his bag out from the car & realised that the bag wasn’t there…it occurred to him that he had left it on the baggage carousel at the airport. He had just walked out of the airport without realising that he forgot to get his bag.

Once he was home, he called the airline (WestJet) and they advised that he needs to go back to the airport and get it which was all good.

What wasn’t that normal was when we were at the airport picking up the bag, he didn’t have to show ID to claim it. His word was just good enough. I thought that for sure he would have had to shown ID or airline ticket, but nope - not a thing was required.

Does this seem right? Has anyone else ever had anything like this ever happen?
